Black Bean Soup

Another ongoing recipe that will  always be under development.

  • 1 large Onion (chopped fine)
  • 3 – 4 gloves of garlic (chopped)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • cooked black beans
  • tin of tomato
  • 1 jalapeno (fresh)
  • 1 -2 chipotle (rehydrated)
  • 1 romano pepper
  • bunch of fresh cilantro
  • 1 fresh lime

In a large saucepan, heat a teaspoon of vegetable oil with bay leaves, slowly cook onion for five minutes. add the peppers, chills, garlic, and half the cilantro. Cook for another minute, and then add the cumin. Add the beans and tomatoes, and cover with water. Simmer slowly for 30 – 45 mins. Towards the end of the cooking time, if the beans haven’t started to lose their form “encourage” them with the back of a wooden spoon.

Serve with the rest of the cilantro, a squeeze of lime, and hot sauce as appropriate.

  1. Is this how you leave us? I get it, we’re all over “Blogging” and a Black Bean Soup recipe is particularly apt for a Sayonara blog entry, but really, is it all done? Is all the stewing steak fallen away already? I know I am almost a year late with this comment, but again, I feel that is particularly apt as well. Consider away…

    • Oddly apt, i remade this soup last week… used poblano and dried indian red, fresh green chillies, less cumin, and a heaped teaspoon of ground coriander seeds.

Is blogging dead? The ‘net feels like it has given up on self-created media that just “is”, and has re-focused on monetising the living fuck out of everything in sight. That was the obvious endpoint of the ‘ad driven web’ against which i wasted so much breath… what we’re left with is TV 2.0 – a delivery mechanism for entertainment under constant surveillance.

“Back away slowly… he’s gonna blow!”

Wise words...
