Black and White in Colour

I’ve taken to scanning my black and white negatives in colour and desaturating them in Lightroom…

…or not. By tweaking the white balance you can effectively desaturate them, or get this subtle <cough> tint. Steely metallic cold. Still can’t get over how good these look for 400 pushed to 1600…

At this point it should be obvious that i’m repeating myself. Fortunately this isn’t the creative dead-end that it appears. I have lots of new ideas, things to try, but right now i’m trying to refine a few things. In a perfect world i’d just be in the right place at the right time when the idea first occurs to me; it would be instinctive, and i’d reflexively capture the scene perfectly. Right. Well, it isn’t going to be like that. I’m going to have to work for every shot.

  1. it’s a character thing… i think. if there’s no striving, it’s too easy. i relish the challenge… or something.

Wise words...
