While talking to Everett about some new (ad supported) mobile service, it occurred to me to opine that, “advertising is like religion – if you know what you want in life you didn’t need them”. Taking that a little further, targeted ads are just like Jehovah’s witnesses in my online life.
Being rather proud of the analogy, i mentioned it to Iain, a copywriter:
“Yes, ads are mainly for the great unwashed, which is why the more exclusive brands/services the ones that are truly and utterly bespoke and ridiculously cool and expensive, don’t advertise as much.”
